On August 20, 2011, numerous fights and at least one shooting happened during and after a football game between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers at the 49ers home stadium.
In my humble opinion, a small piece of the blame belongs with the management and owners of the Oakland Raiders. For years, the Oakland Raiders organization has encouraged bizarre fan behavior. For example, the Oakland Raiders organization likes to speak of the Black Hole.
The Black Hole is a group of Oakland Raiders fans who are encouraged to have a rather questionable devotion to the Oakland Raiders.
The Oakland Raiders organization did television advertisements during the 2011 NFL draft featuring Ice Cube. Ice Cube is a former and sometimes gangster rapper.
Of course, the outcome of all of this catering to supposed gangsters is that you have a fan base with a disproportionate amount of supposed gangsters. It would be better for the Oakland Raiders to advertise to actual football fans instead of the gangster crowd. The Oakland Raiders dismal attendance for home games may be improved with an advertising campaign aimed at football fans rather than gangster rap fans.
